A digital data exchange scheme known as Civil Integrated Management is being considered for adoption by leading US transportation agencies. The scheme is characterized by the use of an enterprise level data pool and processes that facilitate integration amongst various project and program phases (planning, design, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance) as well executive and administrative units. Workflows would be developed to vet, store and retrieve data. Also the data would be processed to provide information and knowledge which could improve decision making. Dr. Jahren will examine the development of this scheme emphasizing lessons learn about how to encourage innovation within US transportation agencies. Audience members will be invited to compare and contrast their own experiences regarding how to encourage innovation.
