Charles Dulic

Charles Dulic was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and decided to attend Purdue after hearing a friend of his father's - and Purdue professor - lecture on the NASA space program. After receiving his BSCE in 1976, Dulic was encouraged to stay on for a master's in transportation by a few of his favorite professors, such as Kumares Sinha, Harold Michael, and Robert Miles. The trio prepared him well for his career with HNTB which spanned more than 30 years.

Dulic sought to expand his technical knowledge beyond his "comfort zone" of traffic engineering, transportation planning, and geometric design. This desire to keep learning led him to assignments in aviation, construction engineering, and project management. Dulic earned leadership roles as project manager, department manager, office engineer, construction resident engineer, office leader, division strategic planning officer, and, ultimately, president of HNTB's Great Lakes Division.

Dulic was involved in significant infrastructure projects around the country including: Accelerate 465 Indianapolis, Indiana; Virginia HOT Lanes (the largest public/private partnership managed lanes program in America); M-6 Grand Rapids South Beltline, Michigan; Marquette Interchange, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; program management for the Illinois Tollway Authority's $6.3 billion Capital Program; Ambassador Gateway Interchange, Detroit, Michigan; and Oldsmobile Park Minor League Baseball Stadium, Lansing, Michigan.

Dulic's commitment to making his clients and their projects successful was one of his top priorities, but so too was his commitment to employees and family. His passion for training staff in leadership development, project management, and young-professional training allowed him to give back to others the lessons he learned throughout his career. Dulic had the privilege to present portions of the HNTB "Young Professional Message" to Purdue's Chi Epsilon members when he was inducted as Chapter Honor Member in 2005.

Dulic has told many of his "young professionals" that the most important "career" decision they will ever make is in choosing their spouses. Dulic met his wife, Karla, while at Purdue in the fall of 1977. They live in East Lansing, Michigan, and have three children: Laura, Melissa, and Kevin. Dulic serves on Purdue's Civil Engineering Advisory Council and also on the Board of Professional Engineers for the State of Michigan. He has recently learned the beer-brewing craft.
