Dr. Rebecca McDaniel will share lessons about life and a career in civil engineering that she learned from her mentor, Prof Leonard Wood. Prof Wood introduced McDaniel to the benefits of involvement in professional organizations, where to find cheap restaurants in Washington, D.C., and the fascinating world of asphalt technology. She will also muse about the future of asphalt in a changing world.
Dr. McDaniel conducts asphalt-related research, training, communication, and technology transfer through the North Central Superpave Center (NCSC) at Purdue University. Dr. McDaniel holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and also a B.A. in English from Indiana University. She is an active member and past president of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists, chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Asphalt Section, chair of ASTM International committee on road and paving materials (D04), and a member of the Board of Directors of ASTM International.
Prior to becoming the technical director for NCSC, Dr. McDaniel was a research engineer and manager with the Indiana Department of Transportation, where she specialized in pavements and materials.
