Research

The lab is focusing on developing novel techniques and methods for sensing and modeling geospatial objects and phenomena at large. It is an intersection area of geomatics, computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning and geosocial sciences. The sensing technology we are based on include, among others, various imaging and laser ranging/scanning sensors from diverse platforms in space, air, ground, and hands. In addition, we are also using multi modal social media data, including images, texts, and trajectory. The subjects we are modeling are across different applications at different scales. They include earth and planetary terrains, buildings and roads, pavements and infrastructure, human activities and urban expansion.
