Transportation officials flocking to Purdue Road School

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —Top federal and state transportation officials will kick off the 97th annual Purdue Road School, to be held March 8-10.

Some 2,000 local and state transportation officials from throughout Indiana will participate in the event, sponsored by the Joint Transportation Research Program in cooperation with the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program, both housed at Purdue.

About 277 experts are scheduled to moderate sessions and give presentations during the two-day conference. The conference will be held in Stewart Center.  The opening session Tuesday will be in the Loeb Theater at 9 a.m. and will feature Greg Nadeau, deputy administrator from the Federal Highway Administration, as well as other top transportation officials.

Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman will give a keynote luncheon talk on Wednesday.

Organizers expect to have a few luncheon tickets remaining for purchase on Wednesday morning at the registration window in Stewart. People seeking tickets, which cost $20, should check with Stephanie Botkin, 494-3253, botkin@purdue.edu.

Session subjects will range from bridge maintenance to ethics and legal issues.

Held at Purdue since 1914, Purdue Road School consistently attracts well over 1,000 Indiana local and state officials, consultants, and suppliers each year.

Although a $50 registration fee has been initiated for all private sector participants.  Participants from Purdue and public agencies will continue to receive complimentary registration. A registration desk is located in the east foyer of Stewart Center from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the conference.

Co-chairing the Road School are Darcy Bullock, director of the JTRP, and John Haddock, director of the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program.
