Purdue professor to head transportation-research program
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Darcy Bullock, a professor of civil engineering at Purdue University, has been named director of the Joint Transportation Research Program, which collaborates with the Indiana Department of Transportation on research and educational programs.

The appointment is effective July 15.
Bullock, who had been associate director of the JTRP, joined the Purdue civil engineering faculty in 1998. He received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Vermont in 1987, and master's and doctoral degrees in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1988 and 1992, respectively.
He replaces Kumares C. Sinha, Purdue's Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering, who is stepping down as JTRP director. He had served as director for 15 years and is an internationally recognized expert on various transportation and public works issues, including traffic congestion, road maintenance and traffic planning.
In collaboration with INDOT, JTRP manages projects related to improving the quality and performance of Indiana's transportation system at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers. The collaborative venture pursues activities in a broad cross section of areas including: pavement materials, bridge structures, highway safety, environmental impact, snow and ice management, traffic management, highway financing, policy and business practices.
