Chris Williams, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, participated in the 2016 ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop at Florida Gulf Coast University on June 19-24, 2016. He presented three classes during the workshop.

Chris Williams, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, participated in the 2016 ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop at Florida Gulf Coast University on June 19-24, 2016. He presented three classes during the workshop.

ASCE’s Committee on Faculty Development selected Williams because of his commitment to excellence in education and his willingness to serve as a future role model for effective teaching.

The ExCEEd Teaching Workshop is a six-day practicum that provides engineering educators with an opportunity to improve their teaching abilities. ASCE has successfully presented this workshop each summer for the past sixteen years. Faculty members across the country and around the world have benefited from this workshop.

The workshop focuses on basic skills and includes seminars addressing the following topics:

  • Principles of effective teaching and learning
  • Learning styles
  • Communication skills
  • Learning objectives
  • Class organization and course organization
  • Development of interpersonal rapport with students
  • Teaching with technology
  • Classroom assessment techniques
