Assistant Professor Pablo Zavattieri was recently awarded a CAREER grant, the National Science Foundation's most prestigious honor for young researchers. Awardees are chosen because they exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations

The CAREER award is intended to aid the “early career-development activities of those teacher-scholars who most effectively integrate research and education”. As such, the research plan incorporates strategies to promote participation of undergraduate students in the research, integrate the research results in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and provide the graduate students involved with opportunities to interact with industrial partners.

More information on this prestigious award, including an abstract of the project, "Multiscale Investigation and Mimicry of Naturally-Occurring Ultra-High Performance Composite Materials," can be viewed on the National Science Foundation website.
