Video

1st Place

EPICS- Global Air Quality Trekkers (GAQT) Nandi Clean Kitchen Study
Courtney Halak (IE)
Location and Term: Kenya May 2019
Description: My EPICS Team's goal in Kenya was to evaluate the effectiveness of Nandi-designed modified kitchens in mitigating indoor air pollution through low-cost improvements in the natural ventilation and chimney exhaust. However, while we were there we also had the opportunity to teach a lesson and interact with the students of the Tumaini School, explore the local town of Eldoret and go on a safari among many other fun and educational activities, all represented within this video.

2nd Place

Technical University of Denmark
Connor Hage (ME)
Location: Amsterdam
Description: This is a video detailing a day in a trip I took to Amsterdam. I met a friend from Purdue (who was actually studying in a different country than me) in Amsterdam, and we rented bikes to travel to Keukenhof, a tulip garden that's only open for six weeks during the year. We had an adventure along the way and a fun evening when we got back.

3rd Place

University of Valencia
Anna Poznyak (ME)
Location and Term:Spain Spring 2019
Description: This video depicts my typical (Fri)day at UPV. I tried to emphasize my favorite parts about studying at UPV and living Valencia, including amazing city beach, beautiful campus and vibrant night life.

Global Engineers Abroad

1st Place

University of Canterbury-Christchurch New Zealand
Caroline Metzger (EEE)
Location and Term: New Zealand Spring 2019
Description: In this photo, I am walking towards New Zealand's tallest mountain, Aoraki (Mount Cook). This hike had spectacular views of the mountain range and the glaciers on the mountains; at the end of the hike there is a glacial lake that my friends and I courageously jumped in!

2nd Place

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Thomas Giordano (IE)
Location and Term: Hong Kong Spring 2019
Description: One of the most known backgrounds of Hong Kong, the Monster Building resembles well the constrained Real Estate of the city.

3rd Place

Exploring Diversity and Innovation in Brazil
Brenden Drinkard McFarland (IE)
Location and Term:Brazil Summer 2019 MEP trip
Description:For context, this photo was taken atop Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro; where Christ the Redeemer is located. The minority engineering program hosted this short two week study abroad trip to explore diversity and innovation with the culture in Brazil, as we visited both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Using a bit of perspective, I thought getting a scaled photo of me standing far (directly) beneath the Redeemer would make for a good photo. We as a group collectively learned a lot from this trip, and I look forward to one day returning to Brazil.

Needs-Finding and medical Device Design in Resource-Limited Settings- Ecuador
Eva Zenk (ChE)
Location and Term: Ecuador Spring Break 2019
Description: This photo depicts members of my engineering team taking measurements to better fit a dog for a prosthetic.
