Purdue ASCE Receives Certificate of Commendation, Letter of Recognition for Community Service
The National ASCE Committee on Student Members has awarded Purdue's ASCE chapter a Certificate of Commendation, an award given only to the top 5% of ASCE student chapters. In addition, the committee recognized Purdue ASCE's continued efforts to increase its involvement with the surrounding community with a Letter of Recognition for Community Service.
Purdue ASCE's community service ranges from outreach activities with local schools to the annual Bridge Bust competition held in the spring. This competition tests high school students' knowledge and intuition by challenging them to build a balsa wood bridge that holds much more than it weighs.
At this year's annual Great Lakes Student Conference, Purdue ASCE won first place in the materials competition and third place in the surveying competition.
These awards signify ASCE's recognition of the Purdue chapter being among the most prestigious in the nation, and recognize the chapter’s efforts in improving the future of civil engineering.
