SME names Rabeler to Board of Directors

Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce that Robert C. Rabeler, PE, SME Senior Vice President, has been appointed to the firm’s Board of Directors.

PLYMOUTH, MICH, April 30, 2013 – Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce that Robert C. Rabeler, PE, SME Senior Vice President, has been appointed to the firm’s Board of Directors.  The announcement was made by SME President and CEO Mark Kramer, PE.

As a member of the Board of Directors, Rabeler will work with the Board to set policies and strategic direction for the firm, and monitor the results of the management team.

Rabeler began his SME career in 1983, and has been involved with a variety of SME’s notable projects throughout the upper Midwest.  He works closely with SME’s clients to understand their project needs and to address project issues, to meet project goals and budgets.

He is Past-President of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Michigan and serves on a number of the organization’s committees.    Rabeler also is a member of several other professional organizations including the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE); the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials); and the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan.  In addition, Rabeler has been active with the ASFE (the national Geoprofessional Business Association), serving on their Board of Directors and performing more than twenty peer reviews of other engineering companies throughout the United States and Canada.

Rabeler is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in six states, and a geotechnical engineer by training.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University, and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from Purdue University.
