VALPARAISO — Adam McAlpine has been named Valparaiso’s engineering director, replacing Tim Burkman, who resigned to accept a new job in Holland, Michigan.
McAlpine formerly served as Valparaiso’s chief deputy engineer, joining the city in 2010.
"We’re so pleased to have someone with Adam’s expertise and experience leading our engineering efforts. He’s always been an integral part of our engineering efforts and will make an excellent director," Mayor Jon Costas said in a press release.
Since joining the city, McAlpine has overseen the city’s stormwater planning efforts and managed projects, such as the multi-stage Chautauqua Park project, which resulted in improved drainage for many city residents.
McAlpine is a civil engineer with a degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. He has also worked in private consulting and served four years in the Air Force as a civil engineer, including two deployments. McAlpine and his wife, Wendy, live in Valparaiso and have four children, Katie, Abby, Adam and Ben.
