C-BRIC researchers Selected as Paper Award Finalists at WACV
C-BRIC researchers were selected as paper award finalizes at the 2023 IEEE/CVF Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision (WACV). Congratulations to Gobinda Saha and Kaushik Roy of Purdue University for achieving finalist status at WACV. WACV's "premier international computer vision event" papers are by invitation only. The WACV event was held January 3-7, 2023, in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Purdue researchers Saha and Roy were selected as finalists for their work on "Saliency Guided Experience Packing for Replay in Continual Learning." Their paper addresses continual learning through replay to produce "richer summaries of past experiences without any memory increase." This work proposes an approach "where [they] select the past experiences by looking at the saliency maps which provide visual explanations for the model's decision." They then use patches of the input images that would be important for prediction. These patches "remind the model about its past decisions, " allowing performance better than "state-of-the-art approaches."
Gobinda Saha is currently a PhD student at Purdue University under the direction of Kaushik Roy. Roy is the C-BRIC Director and a faculty member at Purdue.
