In a groundbreaking study, researchers from the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering have uncovered distinct electrophysiological markers that could potentially distinguish the gradual progression of synucleinopathies, such as Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. This discovery, published in Nature Communications, offers new hope for identifying early signs of these debilitating neurodegenerative conditions much before the onset of significant motor symptoms.

Recognition for outstanding original research is one of the highest honors a student can achieve, and this year Purdue Biomedical Engineering PhD student Tuba Marjan has received the 2025 CMBE-BMES Graduate Student Travel Award.
