The seminar is entitled "Intersection of prostaglandin E2 and GLP-1 signaling pathways to promote beta-cell identity, proliferation, and survival."

Abstract: Our group has found that modulation of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) receptor signaling increases beta-cell proliferation, promotes beta-cell identity, and protects beta-cells from cytokines. Interestingly, GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonists lead to many of the same beneficial effects. Our data also suggest that Nrf2, a transcriptional regulator of antioxidant pathways, is activated by and necessary for the beneficial effects of manipulating PGE2 signaling. In collaboration with the Scott and Garcia-Ocana labs at Mt. Sinai we are exploring the relationship between PGE2, GLP-1R, and Nrf2 pathways in maintenance of functional beta-call mass and protection from oxidative stress.
