Final BME Seminar for Summer 2014

Event Date: August 6, 2014
Hosted By: Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering
Time: 12:30 p.m.
Location: MJIS 2001, WL campus
Mrugesh Parasa (Prof. Tamara Kinzer Ursem, advisor)will present the final seminar for the Summer of 2014. The seminar, entitled "Cell free protein expression and fatty acid labeling," will begin at 12:30 p.m. in MJIS 2001.

The seminar will be teleconferenced to SL165 at IUPUI.

Abstract: Cell free protein expression (CFPS) is based on the early demonstration that cell integrity is not required for protein synthesis to occur. CFPS systems can express protein in much less time compared to in vivo methods. Research has shown that fatty acid labeling can be used to purify proteins by surface capturing them. My research involves labeling proteins expressed in cell free systems.

Bio: Mrugesh has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS-Pilani, India. After obtaining a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue, he worked in Dr. Kinzer Ursem’s lab for a year on Cell free protein expression systems. This summer he started his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering.

***Bring your lunch to seminar – BMEGSA will provide snacks and drinks***
