Panitch and Porterfield Elected to AIMBE Elite

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has recently announced the election of two Weldon School faculty members to the College of Fellows. The inductees, who were nominated by their peers, were screened by committees of Fellows within their specialty and were finally elected by the full College as members of the official Class of 2012.

Ladish Elected Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science

Michael Ladisch, distinguished professor of agricultural and biological engineering, biomedical engineering and Director of Purdue's Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering, is one of five Purdue faculty members recently inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Weldon School's Emily Gullotti Receives Chorafas Award

Graduate student Emily Gullotti has been named one of two Purdue students to receive a 2011 Chorafas Foundation Award. This award for advanced graduate students includes a cash prize intended as co-funding of advanced research or studies, including travel to explore post doctoral opportunities in Nobel Laureate's laboratories.

Report #3 from Galway (Ellen Wittenberg)

Hi from Galway!

I'm spending the fall semester of my senior year at NUI in Galway, Ireland, and for the last two months have been enjoying all the adventures that come with studying in a foreign country - a new campus, new classes, new friends, and certainly some new challenges! As an underclassman at Purdue, I formed some great relationships, both academic and social, with my engineering peers. And now as a senior, I am thrilled to be studying abroad as part of the Purdue BME exchange program with NUI Galway. It has been the perfect opportunity to expand my world view and also work with engineering students and faculty that have a bit of a different perspective on the field of biomedical engineering.

Students Report from Study Abroad Program in Galway, Ireland

Four Purdue Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering students are taking classes in Galway, Ireland during the Fall semester of 2011. These students have begun their senior design projects while they are in Galway, with the assistance of NUIG faculty members. In the second semester the students will return to the Purdue campus and complete these projects with their senior design teammates. The following is the first progress report from one of our students:
