Albena Ivanisevic, an assistant professor in BME and chemistry at Purdue, has been included in this year's "TR100," a list of the world's 100 top young innovators as selected by the Technology Review, a magazine published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The "TR100" is a group of 100 individuals under the age of 35, drawn from a broad spectrum of fields, whose research is anticipated to shape how we live and work in the future. The editors of Technology Review, working with a distinguished panel of judges, selected Professor Ivanisevic from nearly 650 candidates as someone who belongs in that group. The award will be presented on September 29th, during the 2004 Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT in Cambridge, MA.

Professor Ivanisevic's work is creating scaffold-like patterns on the surface of a pig's retina, making templates out of molecular compounds called peptides that could promote the growth of transplanted healthy cells to treat age-related macular degeneration. Placing templates on the retina might enable transplanted cells to take hold and grow.
