2003-2004 Faculty Service Award Presented to Professor Karen Haberstroh

Event Date: January 16, 2004

At the December Staff, Student and Faculty Recognition Reception, Professor Karen Haberstroh was awarded her second Outstanding Biomedical Engineering Faculty Award. (She received the award previously in 2001.) The award is presented each year to the faculty member who contributes the most to our department in a service role as nominated by his/her peers. The award recognizes the importance of service both within the BME Department and across campus.

Professor Haberstroh was nominated for the award based on her leadership both within the department by identifying and encouraging discussion regarding topics critical to the success of BME and beyond the Purdue campus by her active communication and discussions with BME faculty from other institutions. She has been integral in coordinating the graduate BME seminar series and the NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates program, which brings undergraduate students from other universities to Purdue during the summer to work side-by-side with BME graduate students in the labs.
