Raisbeck Engineering Design/Build/Test

This website summarizes activities sponsored by the Purdue School of Aeronautics and Astronautics in the general area of Design/Build/Test programs. The general goal of these efforts is to provide students with real world engineering experiences that entail working with a theoretical idea through its practical application. This website is intended to summarize Design/Build/Test activities conducted by the School, and to serve as a guide for students and faculty to resources in that area.

Partial support for the Design/Build/Test programs is provided by James D. and Sherry L. Raisbeck through "The Raisbeck Engineering Distinguished Professorship for Engineering and Technology Integration." The goal of that professorship is "to bridge the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Department of Aviation Technology to teach graduate and undergraduate students the art and science of mixing theory and application in the Design/Build/Test process. The process shall generally consist of teams working toward a common goal of an end product which is properly designed through theory and made practical through application."

The President's Council Report published in the Spring of 2001 contains an article on the Raisbeck Gift. The article includes an interview with James Raisbeck and his motivation for supporting a Design/Build/Test approach in engineering education. Below a pdf file containing the article can be downloaded.
