Short Course

"Modern Performance Based Navigation Systems"
Dr. Ivan Ostroumov

Monday, April 2, 2018 — Friday, April 6, 2018
5:30pm — 7:00pm each night
HAMP 2108

Course Overview

This course introduces the basic methods and systems for aircraft positioning that meets Performance Based Navigation requirements. The course topics provide clear understanding of GNSS and APNT basics within Next Generation Air Transportation System. The questions of Area Navigation by pairs of navigational aids such as DME/DME, VOR/DME, VOR/VOR will be considered in detail. Algorithms and methods of availability and performance estimation of national navigational aids network are also included in the course.
5 Sessions of 50 minute lecture + Q&A

Instructor Bio

Ivan Ostroumov has been a Fulbright scholar in the school of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue since September 2017. He obtained his PhD degree of Engineering in Navigation and Traffic Control in 2009 from National Aviation University of Ukraine. Since then, he has been a research scientist and associate professor at the National Aviation University of Ukraine. Since 2016 he has also served as a navigation instructor at the Ukranian Helicopter Aviation Company. Dr. Ostroumov has participated in several projects, including Supporting SESAR on GNSS Vulnerability Assessment by performing Space Weather Analysis (Navigation department, EUROCONTROL, Brussel) and E-learning course development (Institute of Air Navigation Services, EUROCONTROL, Luxembourg). His research theme is advanced methods for Alternative Positioning, Navigation, and Timing. His current research projects include developing methods and algorithms for positioning using multiple navigational aids and methods to estimate the availability and accuracy of navigation.
