Terry Murphy is President and CEO of Hammond Group, Inc., a global leader specializing in the optimization of 100% recyclable Lead (Pb) batteries and energy storage materials. Murphy came to Hammond Group in 2011 as a Board Member and became President in 2013. With a focus on advancing energy storage, the company has developed a world-class battery research center, receiving multiple innovation awards and redevelopment recognition from the City of Hammond. With its adoption of an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), the company has begun the transfer of ownership to many who are third, fourth, and even fifth-generation employees.

Prior to joining Hammond, Murphy spent over 25 years in aerospace and held senior executive positions at The Boeing Company and United Technologies where his Advanced Programs organization not only produced rocket engines and power systems for deep space exploration but leveraged these core competencies into clean, renewable and sustainable energy systems for terrestrial applications. He also was the founding CEO of SolarReserve, leveraging high heat flux technologies used in rocket engines into a concentrated solar power facility with 500 megawatts of thermal capacity.

Murphy earned his master’s in Systems Management from USC and an astronautical engineering degree from Purdue. He was recognized by the Astronaut Corps with a Silver Snoopy Award, is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and is a recipient of the Purdue Outstanding Engineering Award, the highest alumni honor given by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He currently serves as a board member on the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Battery Council International.
