Saikumar Reddy Yeratapally wins 2014 International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship

Saikumar Reddy Yeratapally (Sai) won the 2014 International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship sponsored by TMS (the materials society).  This prestigious award represents Sai’s contribution to materials science and engineering with an emphasis on all aspects of the high-temperature, high-performance materials used in the gas turbine industry.  Sai’s PhD research investigates the variability in fatigue performance of a powder-processed Ni-based superalloy based on the microstructure of the material.  Sai has worked closely with his advisor, Prof. Michael Sangid, and his project sponsors, Rolls-Royce, to build computational fatigue models to assess the usable life of high temperature materials for gas turbine engines.  Sai is one of two winners this year and will be presented his award at the 2014 Materials Science & Technology (MS&T) Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
