AAE New User and General Information

Welcome to AAESITE.

Computer service for the engineering schools of Purdue University is handled by Engineering Computer Network. ECN serves all of engineering, offering a variety of benefits, for all users. A Site Specialist is a local expert (System Administrator) responsible for overseeing computer operations for the school and interacting with ECN.

The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics draws from a pool of Site Specialists provided by the User and Desktop Service Group within ECN.

Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

At other engineering schools, contact the local site specialists for support of their computer equipment. 


Obtaining An ECN Account

The schools of engineering make available a career computer account - open until graduation.

If you are registered as an AAE student your account should be updated at the beginning of each semester.

Otherwise fill out a trouble report.

Workstation Types

The department makes available a number of Windows 7 computers for general access and general purpose computing.

Servers

This is a list of the department servers and their specifications.

- gus

This is a compute server.
It is a Dell PowerEdge R710.
Two 6-core Intel Xeon E5649 (12 cores) running at 2.53GHz with 48GB of RAM.
It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

- jvoss

This is a compute server.
It is Dell  PowerEdge R620.
Four 8-core Intel Xeon E5-2690's (32 cores) running at 2.90GHz with 256GB of RAM
It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

- gene

This is a compute server.
It is a Dell PowerEdge R640.
Two 12-core Intel Xeon Gold 6126 ( 24 cores ) running at 2.60GHz with 192GB
of RAM
It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

- neil

This is a compute server.
It is Dell  PowerEdge R620.
Four 8-core Intel Xeon E5-2690 (32 cores) running at 2.90GHz with 256GB of RAM
It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

- thrust

This is a compute server.
It is a Dell PowerEdge R815.
Four 16-core AMD Opteron Processor 6276's (64 cores) running at 2.30GHz with 256GB of RAM
It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

- roger

This is the department file server.
It is a Dell PowerEdge R720xd.
It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

**Do not run jobs on it**

If it is under a heavy load *all* users will be affected. **The site specialist will warn you if you are running a job on it and may kill your job if needed.**
