Fast-Than-Real-Time Simulation of Airborne
Contaminant Transport Buildings by Using Graphic Processing Units

Comparison of the FFD simulation speeds on CPU and GPU
This investigation conducts simulations for airflow motion and airborne
contaminant transportation in buildings on a Graphic Processing Unit (GPU).
The GPU uses parallel programming structure that is very suitable for
enhancing flow simulation speed. When the grid number is large, the Fast
Fluid Dynamics (FFD) scheme on GPU can run around 30 times faster than it
does on
Central Processing Units (CPU). By using the FFD on the GPU, it is possible to simulate the airborne
contaminant transport in large buildings at a speed
faster-than-real-time.
