Sang Ho Yoon, Ke Huo, and Professor Karthik Ramani receive Best Poster Award at UIST 2015

School of Mechanical Engineering Graduate Students Sang Ho Yoon and Ke Huo, and Professor Karthik Ramani from C Design Lab received the People’s Choice Best Poster Award at UIST 2015, Charlotte, NC.

The ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (UIST) is the premier forum for innovations in human-computer interfaces. Sponsored by ACM special interest groups on computer-human interaction (SIGCHI) and computer graphics (SIGGRAPH), UIST brings together people from diverse areas including graphical and web user interfaces, tangible and ubiquitous computing, virtual and augmented reality, multimedia, new input and output devices. UIST is considered to be among the top human computer interaction conference in all of computer science rankings.

The paper, “TMotion: Embedded 3D Mobile Input using Magnetic Sensing Technique” was co-authored by Ph.D students Sang Ho Yoon, Ke Huo with their advisor, Professor Karthik Ramani. TMotion is a self-contained 3D input that enables spatial interactions around mobile using a magnetic sensing technique. Using this new technique, the mobile developers will be capable of expanding the interaction area of the mobile device from 2D touch screen to 3D space around the mobile device.

This work was supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) CMMI and IGERT awards.
