Recruitment

The Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) Department at Purdue University is interested in recruiting outstanding talent to its graduate department to continue the legacy of creating world-class students. Our students and faculty perform cutting-edge research that moves the world forward in numerous areas, such as engineering of renewable resources like water and soil, biological engineering of food processing and genetic systems, and design of machine systems and fluid power equipment. The Recruitment Coordinators for ABE’s Graduate Students Association work with the Department on a number of initiatives to help recruit enthusiastic, talented, and hard-working students to fill research positions as faculty have need. Because our faculty are leaders in receiving funding in their fields, we are constantly looking to recruit new students to the Department! Here is a look at a few of the initiatives ABE GSA puts in place each year to fulfill this need:

Big Ten Expo:

Purdue is home to the Big Ten Expo each year where students are able to interact with recruiters from various Big Ten schools and Department to learn about opportunities for Graduate School. ABE GSA supports this event by giving interested students tours of Abe’s lab spaces, sharing dinner, and providing a point-of-contact for questions and real world responses for what life is like within the Department.

Graduate Student Panel:

This event is for current undergraduate students in ABE who are interested in continuing in ABE for graduate studies.  Current ABE graduate students will be available to answer questions.  This event is typically in the Fall.

Prospective Students Visiting Weekend:

Each spring the ABE Department hosts a group of admitted students to stay for a weekend event. During the event the prospective students are housed with current Graduate students, receive tours of the facilities, have opportunities for one-on-one interviews with Faculty as well as Dinner with Faculty and current students. The Prospective students also have the opportunity to participate in the ABE Research Poster symposium, where the current research by our students is put on display. This weekend is a great opportunity for prospective students to see all the great things Purdue ABE and Lafayette have to offer!
