Soup Kitchen Philanthropy

Our philanthropy chairs, Julia & Josept, have really done a great job of organizing opportunities to give back to the Greater Lafayette community this fall. From reverse trick-or-treating at local hospitals and clean-up of West Lafayette through Winterization, we have ended the semester with two days of volunteering at the Care & Share soup kitchen of Lafayette. Here are some photos!

An Active October for ABE

October has been a very busy month for ABE Students! With intramural sports, our reverse trick-or-treating philanthropy event, and the usual birthday bashes and professional development seminars, we have had a great month!

ABE-GSA Founding Member Elizabeth Casey DeFreese happened to be on-campus at the same time as our meeting, and stopped in to say hi! Always good to see alumni!

May/June Birthday Bash!

More than 30 students came to our May/June Birthday Bash celebration on June 24! Celebrating birthdays is a great way for us to get out of the office and de-stress by socializing and getting to know one another!

Summer Barbecue Social!

ABE-GSA hosted a barbecue social on Saturday June 20, 2015 at Squirrel Park at the Purdue Village! More than 30 ABE Graduate Students ( + friends and family) showed up with side dishes and desserts and enjoyed grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers!

Dr. Heather Gall’s Seminar

ABE-GSA was very excited to host Dr. Heather Gall for our first Young Faculty & Alumni Seminar Series event of the summer. In the seminar, she talked about her research in details when she was a graduate student and post-doc. Also, she mentioned her job hunting experience in academia and how to build a research group in a new environment as an assistant professor.

Dr. Gall also brought her 2-year old daughter to the seminar. During the process, Dr. Gall showed us her awesome ability for work-life balance, which was also a great example for us Grad students!

Purdue ABE graduate students really enjoyed Dr. Gall’s seminar, and we appreciate that she traveled to Purdue to talk with us! Her slides were emailed to all graduate students after the seminar, and the original event flyer can be viewed here: Heather Gall flyer 061615
