Use these instructions to make your own models to demonstrate beam buckling modes. All you need is some overhead transparency film and some packing tape for models which will exhibit lateral torsional buckling, local flange buckling, and local web buckling.

AISC Scholarships

The deadline to apply online is May 1, 2013.


Full-time Juniors, Seniors and Masters students enrolled in civil, architectural or construction engineering, or construction management programs at domestic universities are encouraged to apply for the 2013-14 academic year AISC Scholarships. More than $95,000, provided by the AISC Education Foundation and various steel industry organizations, will be awarded to students. NSSBC

National Student Steel Bridge conference competitions will make for a busy couple of months and will finalize the roster for the national competition in Seattle.


The 2013 Student Steel Bridge Competitions are about to go into full swing! Three of the 18 ASCE conferences will hold their conference competitions in March while the remaining competitions will be held in April. Qualifying teams will go on to the national competition, which will be held at the University of Washington May 31-June 1. To learn more about the competition, go to www.aisc.org/steelbridge.

What's next for AISC's Monday evening webinar program?


Interested in what the next AISC Night School program will be? Beginning June 3, eight 90-minute sessions will be given on the "Fundamentals of Stability for Steel Design". AISC Seeks Proposals for Development of BIM Best Practices Guide
Help to facilitate the long-term standardization of BIM in structural steel construction.
AISC is now accepting proposals for the development of a best practices guide on the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) that is consistent and cohesive with the checks and balances currently provided in the AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges.
