| Student Internship Opportunity | |||||||||
Interested students have until February 28, 2014 to submit materials for a summer internship with AISC's Engineering and Research Department. AISC is now accepting applications from students enrolled in structural, architectural, or civil engineering programs for a full-time paid internship position at AISC's headquarters in downtown Chicago for the summer of 2014. Qualified applicants will be in, at least, the third year of their curriculum and will have completed at least one course in structural steel design. Students should be planning to continue with their education full time in the Fall 2014 to be considered. AISC interns support the AISC Engineering and Research Department in developing technical resources for structural steel design. Interested students should submit their resumes, including their cumulative GPA and a list of related coursework, by February 28, 2014, to hr@aisc.org with “E&R Summer Internship” in the subject line. Any related inquiries can be sent to the same address. |

Don't forget about the AISC Design Examples |
|||||||||
Use SteelWise articles to brush up on your (and your students') steel know-how. The SteelWise feature in Modern Steel Construction provides practical knowledge on a number of topics, ranging from stability analysis, to how choice of corrosion protection affects connection design, to practical considerations for expansion joints in buildings. It may be worth revisiting the March 2012 SteelWise installment, which provides an introduction to the AISC Design Examples (www.aisc.org/manual14). Over 150 design examples illustrate use of the 2010 AISC Specification and the 14th Edition Steel Construction Manual. The PDF file is organized into Part I, including examples following Chapters A through K of the Specification; Part II, covering connection design; and Part III, stepping through design of a four-story office building. Need something more focused for your class? A condensed version of the Design Examples (43 problems for topics typically studied in a first semester structural steel design course) can be found by clicking here. |
