National Student Steel Bridge Competition

Regional competitions this month will finalize the roster for the NSSBC.

Congratulations to the teams that have qualified to compete thus far at the National Competition, which will be held at the University of Akron on May 23 and 24. Eleven of the eighteen conference-level competitions will take place in April. Good luck to all teams!
2013-14 ACSA/AISC Steel Design Architecture Student Competition

The submission deadline is May 21, 2014.

The fourteenth annual Steel Design Student Competition challenges students, working individually or in teams, to explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction. Category I "Border-Crossing Station" challenges architecture students to design a border-crossing station sited on a boundary between two countries. Category II "Open" offers architecture students the opportunity to select a site and building program using steel as the primary material. Milek Faculty Fellowship Winner Announced

Congratulations to this year's Milek Faculty Fellow!

Michael Pollino of Case Western Reserve University was awarded the 2014 AISC Milek Fellowship for his proposal titled "Damage Resistant Design Methodology for Multi-Hazard Resilient Buildings". For more information regarding the Milek Fellowship, visit www.aisc.org/facultyfellowship.
Seismic Upgrade

Use SteelWise articles to brush up on your (and your students') steel know-how.

The SteelWise feature in Modern Steel Construction provides practical knowledge on a number of topics, ranging from stability analysis, to how choice of corrosion protection affects connection design, to practical considerations for expansion joints in buildings.

Need to catch up on AISC's resources for seismic design? July 2013's SteelWise installment provides an overview of the contents of the 2nd Edition of the Seismic Design Manual, which is based on the 2010 AISC Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings. The article also provides a link to various seismic design resources, including design guides and background documents.
