Mathematica

free MathReader software to display Mathematica notebooks

Purdue Mathematica Users Group

The following are links to Mathematica notebooks. To use them

  1. download to your computer
  2. start Mathematica
  3. do File => Open and open the file
  4. do Kernel => Delete All Output
  5. do Kernel => Evaluation => Evaluate Notebook

bird.nb (the z.gif animation it produces)

An abstract bird-like thing "flying".
Keywords:
    animated GIF
    3D graphics
birthday.nb
In a group of 23 people, odds are a little better than 50-50 that two or more people will have the same birthday.
Keywords:
    2D graphics
    probability
    simulation
    symbolic mathematics
The odds of guessing which atom in the universe I'm thinking of now are far better than finding a group of 365 random people (from an infinite number of people) who have different birthdays.
sc.nb
One hour short course.
Keywords:
    2D graphics
    3D graphics
    notebook
    numeric mathematics
probability (one 12-sided vs. two 6-sided dice)
    simulation
    symbolic mathematics
SlideShow.nb
An overview of Mathematica including very a simple comparison of Maple, MATLAB, and Mathematica symbolic math.
SurfaceOfRevolution.nb

This uses the SurfaceOfRevolution.m Mathematica Add-On. The notebook is already evaluated. Do not do Kernel => Delete All Output or Kernel => Evaluation => Evaluate Notebook unless you have the Add-On installed.

Show curve in 2D, show curve in 3D, show animation of rotating curve around line to make a surface of revolution.
Keywords:
    2D graphics
    3D graphics
    surface of revolution
    SurfaceOfRevolution[]
Needs more work, in particular I want to remove mesh, add line that curve is rotated around, and put curve in red so it wan be seen as it rotates around.
