A certificate in a specialized area will deepen your knowledge and skill set, while broadening your professional opportunities. Earning that graduate certificate within one of four offered areas from Purdue will enhance your technical skills. Our graduate certificates are specifically designed for mid-career and late career engineers.

All certificate programs listed below are exclusively offered to our online students and require that students have their bachelor's degree. Covering any of four innovative specialty areas, and you'll learn from the same faculty who have helped establish Purdue as one of the top universities in the world. Please note that admission to one of our online graduate certificates does not assure you of admission into the Graduate School of Purdue University to pursue an advance degree.

Teaching and Learning in Engineering

The 10-credit program, offered through Purdue Engineering Education and is designed to enhance the preparation in engineering education.  Each course is designed to maximize personalized instruction with extensive feedback from the instructor.  In addition, the courses provide many opportunities for student-to-student interaction, which is so valuable in courses where students have such varied backgrounds and experiences

Systems

The 9-credit hour certificate program is a response to the need for a new generation of leaders with a holistic perspective, who can address the most challenging and complex problems of today’s societies. Purdue graduates have continuously made technological breakthroughs, developed innovative products, created timeless designs, and discovered better ways to feed the world. It is time to pioneer the education of scientists, economists, engineers, designers, and humanitarians who are also systems thinkers; future leaders who can see the hidden interconnections between different elements of a system and turn the spotlight on the role of humans. These systems range from large-scale power grids and political/social systems to small-scale devices, such as motors for unclogging blood vessels and 3-D nanostructures.

Applied Heat Transfer

This 12-credit program, through Mechanical Engineering, will position you to examine areas such as intermediate heat transfer, heat transfer in electronic systems, and numerical methods in heat and mass transfers, among others. Once you've earned the certificate, you'll have developed valuable expertise in applied heat transfer and its implementation in emerging technologies.

Digital Signal Processing

This 15-credit program, available from the Family Elmore School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will enable you to explore areas such as random variables and signals, optimization methods for systems and control, and lumped system theory, among others. With this certificate, you'll establish yourself as an expert in a field with applications in everything from audio processing and compression to video compression to speech processing, seismology, and biomedicine.

Noise Control

This 12-credit program, through Mechanical Engineering, will provide you with the opportunity to strengthen your knowledge in areas such as engineering acoustics, mechanical vibrations, and vibrations of discrete systems, among others. Earning this certificate will demonstrate that you've developed expertise in a field that impacts communities through solutions for noise from things like traffic, as well as industrial and commercial endeavors.

Hypersonics

This 12-credir hour certificate is designed for working professional engineers who want to develop a competitive edge by gaining graduate-level knowledge in hypersonics. This fully online program teaches state-of the-art methods in fluid dynamics, aerospace propulsion, and compressible flows.

Advances in hypersonic technology are rapidly accelerating toward a speed where knowledge of the field becomes integral for success in the aerospace and defense industries, a key element of national security, and more.

Because of national security needs, there is a strong demand within industry and government agencies for engineers and managers to gain understanding of issues related to hypersonic flows and the methods used to analyze them. Development of systems operating at hypersonic speeds (greater than Mach 5) can be difficult due to the intense heat transfer rates generated. The design of efficient propulsion systems also presents its own challenges. The ability of engineers to accurately predict hypersonic flows and to choose appropriate materials is critical to the successful development of hypersonic flight vehicles.

Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Science for Medical Devices

Students enrolled in this 9-credit hour certificate program will participate in a sequence of courses designed to educate participants on practical regulatory affairs at both the initial approval and later compliance stages. Students gain valuable in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements as well as guided practice with effective regulatory document submissions. This advanced education in regulatory quality, science, and compliance will prepare students for rapid integration into regulatory teams in critical areas of medical device and other related industries.
