Accomplished IE alums receive recognition from School and College
On the evening of Thursday, April 18, a collection of Purdue Industrial Engineering faculty, staff, students and alums gathered in the John Purdue Room to pay tribute to the latest four alums to be honored as Outstanding Industrial Engineers. Only 104 alumni have been so honored, out of more than 8,000 graduates of the School of Industrial Engineering.
The honorees were Richard I. Adduci, Jr. (BSIE '88), Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Boston Scientific; Julie A. DeWane (BSIE '87), Vice President of Global Supply Chain for GE Energy Services' Measurement and Control Solutions; Dr. Claire A. Nelson (MSIE '81), Chief Ideation Officer of Sagient Futures LLC and the Development Foresight Institute; and Lawrence Oliver II (BSIE '84), Chief Counsel, Investigations for The Boeing Company.
Earlier in the day, all four of the honorees participated in a panel discussion sponsored by the IE Graduate Student Organization on "ReThinking IE for the Next Generation."
Carter honored by College of Engineering
In February, Brig. Gen. Theresa Carter (BSIE '85, MSIE '88) was recognized by the College of Engineering as a Distinguished Engineering Alumna. The Distinguished Engineering Alumni/Alumnae Award is presented to men
and women who have distinguished themselves in any field in ways that
reflect favorably on Purdue University, the engineering profession, or
society in general.
In being presented with the honor, Carter was cited for "nearly three decades serving in the United States Air Force, earning numerous recognitions and awards, and becoming the first female engineering officer promoted to brigadier general."
Carter served at the Pentagon; commanded at the squadron, group, and
wing levels; deployed in support of the Gulf War in 1990; and in 1997
was named the Air Force Senior Civil Engineering Manager of the Year.
She is Commander, 502d Air Base Wing, Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA),
Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Installation Commander for JBSA. She
achieved the rank of brigadier general in May 2010.
Carter was honored with Purdue's Outstanding Industrial Engineer award in 2010.
