Lockheed Martin Skunk Works official is keynote speaker at upcoming Purdue lecture series

Frank Cappuccio, executive vice president and general manager of advanced development programs, known as Skunk Works, and strategic planning with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., will speak at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Purdue Memorial Union South Ballroom.
Rolls-Royce Corp., Purdue University College of Engineering and the Energy Center in Purdue's Discovery Park are sponsoring the lecture. The event is open to the public.
"One of our goals with the Charles Rolls and Henry Royce Purdue Memorial Lecture Series is to bring top leaders in industry and academics to Purdue to talk about how we can face the challenges of the future," said Jay Gore, interim director of the Energy Center, associate dean for research and entrepreneurship for the Purdue College of Engineering and the Vincent P. Reilly Professor in Mechanical Engineering.
Cappuccio has more than 30 years of management and engineering experience associated with the acquisition, development and deployment of products such as tactical missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and navigational computers.
"Frank Cappuccio has a diverse background and can talk about everything from the development and use of 'high-tech' products to how to motivate employees and foster innovation," said Norm Egbert, vice president of engineering and technology for Rolls-Royce Corp. and who served on the selection committee that chose Cappuccio. " His expertise in all these areas provides him with an effective operational leadership style and a versatile management capability, which will make his talk very interesting."
At the corporate level, Cappuccio has experience in strategic planning, acquisitions, mergers and technology management.
Prior to his current assignment, he was vice president of surveillance and command aircraft programs at Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems in Marietta, Ga.
He served as program director of Martin Marietta's advanced development and technology operations, where he created the department responsible for developing products such as air- and ground-based radar systems and advanced missiles.
Cappuccio also served as vice president of Rockwell International's advanced systems business area and was responsible for expanding the corporation's markets in operations analysis, advanced design and radar-signature work.
Cappuccio earned a master's degree in business administration from Adelphi University, a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from City College of New York.
