Students Connecting with Industry Sessions (SCIS)

Let your students know about special student events at this year's NASCC!

AISC is pleased to announce a special program for students to attend this year's North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) in Pittsburgh, PA from May 11-13. In addition to all the great sessions available, AISC has put together a special student event on Thursday, May 12th, called Students Connecting with Industry Sessions (SCIS). Admission to NASCC and SCIS will be FREE to student members.

In addition, students who attend the full SCIS will receive $100 towards travel and FREE admission to the Conference Dinner and Networking Event at Heinz Field on Thursday evening, May 12th.

The SCIS is intended to be a great resource to students, especially given the current economic challenges. It includes two morning sessions with tips on finding a career opportunity in these economic times, and tips on how to become a future leader. There is also an afternoon session called Direct Connect which will allow students to network with multiple great companies and leaders in structural engineering and the steel profession.

For more information, students should review the following information...

1. Recorded Video with more information about the event. (Click here)
2. Document with additional information on the event. (Click here)
3. Website which will be continually updated with the latest information on the event http://www.findyourengineer.com/SCIS

If you or your students have any questions about this event, please contact either Brian Quinn, PE, or Lisa Willard, PE, at SE Solutions at Brian.Quinn@FindYourEngineer.com or Lisa.Willard@FindYourEngineer.com or Maria Mnookin from AISC at mnookin@aisc.org.

Join Us for the Educator Session, Wednesday, May 11 at the NASCC

The Educator Session will feature a research update, PE licensing update, and panel of design engineers on "what designers want new hires to know."

The Educator Session will be on Wednesday May 11, 8:00 a.m. – noon. In addition to an AISC Research Update by Tom Schlafly and a PE Licensing Update by Nancy Gavlin, this year’s Educator Session will feature a forum titled, “The Simplicity of Complexity: The Road to Great Designs.” Thomas M. Murray, Virginia Tech, will moderate a panel of leading design engineers in a discussion of what designers want new hires to know and understand, and how faculty can incorporate design practices into their classes and research.

AISC will provide a travel stipend of up to $300 to all faculty who attend this session. In addition, attendees can receive CEU certificates for the Educator Session.

Faculty planning to attend should register with Maria Mnookin, AISC Education Specialist, (312) 670-5418, mnookin@aisc.org.

Summer Internship Opportunity at AISC for 2011

AISC is accepting applications until February 28.

The American Institute of Steel Construction is now accepting applications from students enrolled in structural, architectural, or civil engineering programs for a full-time internship position at AISC's headquarters in downtown Chicago for the summer of 2011. Qualified applicants will be in, at least, the third year of their curriculum and will have completed at least one course in structural steel design. AISC interns support the AISC Engineering and Research Department in developing technical resources for structural steel design.

Interested students should submit their resumes by February 28, 2011, including a list of related coursework, to Cindi Duncan of AISC at duncan@aisc.org. Please contact her at 312.670.5410 if you have questions or require additional information (for complete contact information click here).
